Meet Dr. Nelson

Dr. Kirk Nelson grew up on a farm outside of Atlantic. He attended Iowa State University for his undergraduate studies and earned his dental degree from The University of Iowa. After graduation he was in the US Air Force for three years stationed at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. There he had the opportunity to work and learn with specialists in all aspects of dentistry. He returned to Atlantic in 1986 to join Dr. Carrol Trewet at Atlantic Dental Center.

Continuing education has been a huge part of Dr. Nelson’s dental career. His goal has always been to provide his patients with the best care dentistry has to offer from both a technical and behavioral aspect. Dr. Nelson has been a visiting faculty member of the Pankey Institute for almost 20 years, serving as lead faculty for the majority of that time. He also facilitates small group study clubs for dentists around the country. Dr. Nelson has lectured on topics including occlusion, esthetics, restorative dentistry, and philosophy at dental conferences around the country.

Dr Nelson and his wife, Sara, have two children, Brian and Tom. In his spare time he enjoys travel, golf, photography and Iowa State sports!
