Tooth Fillings

Advantages of Tooth-Colored Restorations

Tooth fillings are used to replace missing tooth structure after removing decay, or a “cavity.”  There are two main material options for fillings, tooth colored or silver.  Each material has its own advantages and disadvantages.  The material of choice depends on the clinical situation and will be discussed with the patient prior to the procedure.  The main advantages of tooth-colored restorations are their ability to bond to the remaining tooth and provide an esthetic result that matches the tooth.  Since some resins used in tooth-colored restorations contain fluoride this can help prevent decay as well.
